Sunday October 2, 2022, a race in favor of the League against cancer 31 will take place on the base of Argoulets de Toulouse, on the occasion of the Pink October awareness month. (©Pink October)

It’s the kickoff of October Rose everywhere in France. Many activities, courses or conferences will multiply during a month in the four corners of the territory for the awareness and prevention of breast cancer. With nearly 59,000 new cases and 12,000 deaths per year in France, breast cancer is the first cancer in women. “Detected early, breast cancer can be cured in more than 90% of cases! “Explains the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Occitanie.

A screening rate of 57.2% in Haute-Garonne

In Occitanie, the screening rate for breast cancer (the leading cause of cancer in women) is 54.5%, i.e. 1.5 points below the French average (compared to 57.2% in Haute-Garonne ). Screening and early diagnosis: these are the keys to this fight according to Didier Jaffre, the director general of ARS Occitanie:

For the majority of chronic diseases, everyone knows that the earlier the diagnosis, the more it promotes effective treatment for the disease. Everyone should also know that here in Occitania, nearly 4,900 new cases of breast cancer are discovered each year and more than 1,000 women die from it each year. These health indicators are serious and they should challenge all of us all the more when less than one woman in two responds to the invitation to organized screening that she receives from the age of 50. In our region, this rate is even slightly lower than the national result: this shows how much we must collectively remobilize.

Demonstrations in Haute-Garonne

Many events will take place in Occitania on behalf of Pink October. In Haute-Garonne, here is the calendar of events, if you want to get involved, whatever the means:

  • Exhibitions of pink umbrellas: go to the Niel alleys of low wall (even 1uh October), in front of the Jean Marmignon theater in Saint-Gaudens (Friday 7 October at 7 p.m.), the front of the Pahin community center in Turnsheet (Saturday October 8), at Luchon (Sunday October 9), at carbon (Wednesday 12 October from 8 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.), at Quint Fonsegrives and to eaunes (Saturday October 15 in the morning), at Verfeil and Salies-du-Salat (Saturday 22 October) and at Bouloc (in October)
  • Solidarity courses: Sein Go Rose course at Saint-Gaudens (even 1uh October), course in favor of the League against cancer of Haute-Garonne, base of Argoulets, in Toulouse (Sunday October 2), running and walking low wallplace Piquemal (Saturday 8 October), running and walking called MyRise in Luchon (Sunday 9 October), a walk Turnsheet (Sunday 9 October), a solidarity march, in eaunes (Saturday 15 October) and at Labastidette (Sunday 16), a solidarity march in the Borderouge district in Toulouse (Thursday 20 and Friday 21 October), sports workshops at Verfeil (Saturday October 22)…
  • Plays : “The Anachronics” at Cugnaux (Thursday, October 6), “There are people on the balcony” at the Jean Marmignon theater in Saint-Gaudens (Friday, October 7)

But also…

Let us also mention, on Sunday October 16, 2022 at the multipurpose hall of Leguevin, west of Toulouse, the 3e Pink Sharks Tournament, a badminton tournament in which players are invited to come up with a pink item. Here too, the funds (16 euros of participation per player) will be donated to the League against cancer of Haute-Garonne.

Screening examinations and many information stands will be held throughout this month of October 2022 in Haute-Garonne. Let us cite, for example, this conference on cancer screening and violence against women at Place Saint-Etienne in Toulouse (Tuesday, October 4), breast self-monitoring awareness workshops at the Ambroise Paré clinic in Toulouse (Wednesday 5), as well as at the Croix du Sud clinic in Quint Fonsegrives (Saturday October 15)…
