Belenenses go ahead in the Portuguese Cup with a comeback
Restelo’s men beat Torreense, a team they hadn’t faced since 1975.
Belenenses, from Liga 3, took away Torreense, from II Liga, this Saturday from the Portuguese Cup, after beating at home by 3-1, with a turnaround, in a meeting with history, of the tie of the competition.
The two teams had not faced each other since 1975 and fought in 1955/56, at the time still in Campo das Salésias, the former home of Os Belenenses, for a place in the Cup final, then with victory for the emblematic of Torres Vedras (3 -two).
As the first two steps of the West’s memory were to be reissued in the opening minutes, the group was present at the time in front of João Vi, which now came a moment of change of memory cut directed to Fred Martins.
The same João was close to scoring twice in the 22nd minute, a double opportunity in which he heard the crossbar, Numai shot the defense of the keeper Dani, in the rebound. Then followed the reaction of Os Belenenses, led by the irreverent Clé.
The Cape Verdean saw a goal being disallowed, but he shot right after the break (45 minutes), projecting the distance to the home team for a great second half, in which he went ahead in the 77th, in a shot by Xavi Fernandes , and with the 89th triumph, Clé’s bis.
