New franchise systems – franchise newcomers in Austria
Austria’s franchise scene stretches across the industry landscape: from organic self-service shops (Kobl), fire and water damage restoration (Soluto), fitness (Clever Fit) to healthy fast food (Kenny’s), real estate brokerage (Re/Max), car workshop (Lucky Car) to rental storage (Storebox), animal feed delivery service (Husse) and vitamin infusions (Vitamin-Lounge).

495 franchise systems
There are a total of 495 systems in this country, as a study commissioned by the Austrian Franchise Association (ÖFV) from 2021 shows. In 2019 there were 480 (see graphic). This means that the number of franchise systems has increased slightly, but despite the corona pandemic. Three quarters of the systems come from Austria, the rest are spread over Germany, Great Britain, the USA and Canada as well as the rest of Europe. The net sales generated by the franchise systems will increase from EUR 10.3 billion in 2019 to EUR 10.8 billion in 2021.
81 percent of the systems surveyed state that they have survived the corona crisis well. What are the advantages of franchising? “By working together and using synergies, many good systems are able to react quickly to new crises, for example through digitization steps that can be implemented more quickly or the exchange of experience between partners,” explains ÖFV Secretary General Barbara Steiner.
