Bilbao finalizes its own savings plan to face the energy crisis
It will assimilate the measures established by the central government, which will be adapted to the characteristics of the town, where a diagnosis of buildings and public services is already being prepared
When the central government announced the package of measures to promote energy saving, a period of one year was also given for the different administrations to have their own municipal plan to optimize the measures to be adopted as much as possible. In the ordinary plenary session this Thursday, the Councilor for Urban Planning and Works, Services, Urban Rehabilitation and Public Space, Asier Abaunza, confirmed that the Bilbao City Council is already working on its preparation, which will be based “basically” on the regulations state. In that, he has remarked that “it will focus on the obligations of the Public Administration, while for citizens, except for the obligation to change the community diesel boilers by 2030, it does not contemplate coercive or sanctioning measures, but of encouragement and sensitization”.
Abaunza, who has made this announcement as a result of an EH Bildu proposal that has been approved after agreeing on a transaction with the government team, has underlined that energy audits are already being carried out on all municipal buildings and services. “In addition, all municipal areas are already working on adopting measures to reduce consumption as much as possible,” he added.
The objective, as the mayor has remarked, is to have a draft “as soon as possible”. Subsequently, he has promised to involve “everyone” in its final elaboration. Abaunza has guaranteed that the results will be kept for the municipal groups so that they can contribute his ideas. At the same time “we will create monographic commissions in the eight districts into which the city is divided to inform all residents in detail about this energy saving plan and that they can enrich it with their suggestions.”
