Hydrogen leak at Toulouse-Blagnac airport: faulty equipment involved
A hydrogen leak at the Hyport station at Toulouse Blagnac airport last Saturday was linked to faulty equipment. The repair was carried out and the station shut down.
Around 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, security services at Toulouse Blagnac airport detected a hydrogen leak at the Hyport station, the world’s first green hydrogen production unit.
“Immediately, the security protocol was implemented. He got up at 9 o’clock. The site is therefore completely secure” since that time, specifies the Regional Energy Climate Agency (Arec), one of the two prime contractors with Engie. It also specifies that this leak had “no impact” on the environment, health, or safety, and “no impact on travelers, inhabitants of the area and air traffic”. Moreover, the leak would not have “altered the station”.
The repairs have been carried out
The Engie and Arec teams were able to locate its origin. “This is a temporary test hardware failure. The repairs have already been carried out” at the start of the afternoon. For the moment, the technical teams do not know if a human error is also at the origin of the malfunction.
The station is still shut down. The operator decides to put it back into service “after having followed the defined protocol”.
Commissioned last year, Hyport responds to mobility uses but also industrial or logistics. Two terminals integrated into the station, and equipped by McPhy, allow all types of vehicles to fill up.
