Vienna (OTS) – How can lightweight construction contribute to making mobility more sustainable? What possibilities are there to minimize the consumption of resources in the aluminum industry by means of recycling and circular economy approaches? And what does the “Green Foundry 4.0” of the future look like? These and many other questions are dedicated to the [12. Ranshofener Leichtmetalltage
2022] (https://www.lmt.ait.ac.at/), which will take place from October 6th to 7th, 2022 at the University Mozarteum Salzburg. They are organized by the LKR Light Metal Competence Center Ranshofen of the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology.
Zwtl.: Latest scientific findings
Under the title “Green Processes & Sustainable Materials”, the participants can expect an exciting program all about digitization and decarbonization in the field of process and material development as well as the material characterization of light metals. A balanced spectrum of international lectures from university, non-university and industrial research provides an up-to-date overview of the latest scientific findings and successful new light metal applications. All presentations have the character of a premiere and thus offer a unique information advantage for the visitors of the conference.
Zwtl.: Top-class sessions, first-class speakers
The individual lectures are thematically assigned to three sessions:
Material development and material characterizationnProcess development – experimental and numericalnFuture technologiesn The sessions will be introduced by three exciting keynotes:
Univ.-Prof. dr Nicola Hüsing (Paris Lodron University Salzburg): Aerogels – The World’s Lightest Solids: Challenges and OpportunitiesnPD DI Dr. Helmut Kaufmann (AMAG Austria Metall AG):n Challenges for the aluminum industry against the background of the Green Deal
*Prof. Stewart Williams (Cranfield University):
The contribution of wire-based Direct Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing to lightweight structures and sustainability
In an accompanying industrial exhibition, well-known companies from industry, research and testing technology will present the latest trends and technologies from their fields. And in a poster exhibition, young scientists provide an insight into current research results. This “marketplace” for industry and science as well as the traditional evening reception of the Light Metal Days offer opportunities for networking and promote the development of project ideas and business relationships.
Subtitle: Lightweight construction as a key technology of the future
Henriette Spyra, MA, Head of Section III “Innovation and Technology” of the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) will open the conference. She emphasizes the importance of lightweight construction for future mobility solutions and beyond: “Lightweight construction is a key technology of the future and includes the entire automotive and vehicle construction, mechanical and plant engineering, aerospace, medical technology and the construction industry. The aim is to save weight through lighter materials and innovative designs. This is equally important for the environment, our climate and also for the competitiveness of the Austrian economy. At the national level, the BMK has consistently and reliably supported the lightweight construction community through the research funding programs that have been running in recent years on the topics of ‘Mobility Transition’ and ‘Production and Material’.”
Zwtl.: The light metal days as a green event
dr Christian Chimani, Head of Center for Low-Emission Transport at AIT and Managing Director of LKR, gives an outlook on the conference: “Top-class speakers, a well-known industrial exhibition and an impressive conference location make the Light Metal Days 2022 a unique opportunity to find joint solutions for the current challenges in the industry. With our event, we want to make an active contribution to environmental and climate protection at the same time: The Ranshofen Light Metal Days are organized according to the criteria of the Austrian eco-label for green events.”
