Stapo Zurich arrests fraudsters again
On Wednesday, September 21, 2022, bogus police officers demanded cash and valuables as bail following an alleged accident.
In this context, the Zurich City Police arrested a suspected fraudster in District 1.
Shortly before 4 p.m., a man reported to the operations center of the Zurich city police and said that he had already received several calls from the wrong police officer. This informed him about a serious accident a month ago. He was also asked to bring cash and valuables worth ten thousand francs to a defined meeting point as a deposit.
Investigators immediately take action to contact the man. They informed the 79-year-old man about how to proceed. Thanks to the good cooperation between the person who filed the complaint and the police officers, the emergency services arrested the suspected fraudster, a 50-year-old Pole, around two hours later at Hirschengraben.
In the last few weeks, however, there have also been cases in which the tricksters have been successful with this scam. Therefore, the Zurich City Police once again points out:
- The police don’t ask for money over the phone.
- Never give cash or valuables to anyone you do not know. Do not leave a case of cash or valuables in an assigned location.
- If in doubt, always call the emergency number 117 immediately to clarify any uncertainties.
- Draw the attention of relatives and acquaintances to these fraud attempts.
- Report such phone calls to your nearest police station, even if they are successful.
