Prague Zoo: The new gorilla pavilion will welcome the first visitor. How does it look like there?
Probably the most important news from the new pavilion is that the rapprochement of the new male gorilla Kisumu (25) with Duni (9), the daughter of the first gorilla born in the Czech Republic, Moja, is going better than the breeders expected. “The connection went perfectly. They sat next to each other and comforted each other.” breeder Martin Vojáček revealed.
How does a gorilla comfort a gorilla? “Muttering to each other, bracing themselves,” he added. Now they are an inseparable couple. There were even mating attempts. The next important step that the couple has ahead of them will be the connection with the other gorillas – with the female Kijivu, Shinda, Kamba and little Ajabu, who have also already settled in the large exhibit and enclosure. The zoo’s new gorilla pavilion is open to the public will officially open on September 28.
What will you experience in the reservation?
- Fascinating tropical rainforest atmosphere with typical plants and sounds.
- You will hear the hum of forest termites, the singing of birds, the cracking of branches, the rumble of a falling tree or the rain. Music composer Michal Rataj captured the real sounds of the forest in the Dja Biosphere Reserve in Cameroon.
- You will get a glimpse of the Cameroonian countryside. This is evoked, for example, by mannequins and statuettes made by natives.
- You will see what the little Africans are learning. “We also delivered school desks directly from the Cameroonian school in Somalia. We brought them new ones for them,” said zoo director Miroslav Bobek.
- The reserve also has a tent of forest guards with items seized by poachers.
