MVV: Free voters demand higher wages for bus drivers – Munich district
The Free Voters in the district of Munich are campaigning for better pay for bus drivers within the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV) and are calling for higher social standards to prevent further brain drain. Most recently, according to the two FW district councilors Otto Bussjäger and Florian Ernstberger in a press release, there have repeatedly been “timetable thinning” and the associated loss of quality for commuters on the affected lines. The offer became increasingly unreliable and therefore unattractive, according to the Free Voters, precisely because bus drivers were absent or unavailable. Other districts such as Regensburg or Main-Spessart had already introduced improved minimum standards. “The fight for bus drivers has broken out and is being waged through social standards and monetary allowances,” said Bußjäger and Ernstberger.
Specifically, the Free Voters are demanding that bus drivers in the MVV receive a tariff allowance of at least three euros per hour, and that higher standards are to be introduced for the sanitary facilities at the terminal stops and depots. “Otherwise, these jobs in Munich and the surrounding area will be given up by the drivers and they will migrate to areas with significantly lower housing and living costs for the same pay,” says the application, according to which District Administrator Christoph Göbel (CSU) is looking for better conditions at the MVV should use.
