Formula 1: David Coulthard in Athens (vid)
The veteran driver was in our country as part of the “More Than Equal” program and gMotion by Gazzetta was there!
After almost fifteen years, we welcomed David Coulthard back to Greecein the context of his short visit on the occasion of the program “More than equal».
This is his own initiative, as well as in collaboration with the entrepreneur Karel Komarekfounded and fund this program which aims to prepare and crown the first female World Champion in the magical world of Formula 1!
The goal of “More Than Equal”
This new initiative aspires to identify and minimize the barriers women drivers face that prevent them from reaching Formula 1. Despite the fact that F1 has always been “open” to the representatives of the fair sex, from the first Grand Prix in its history, in 1950, until today, only 5 women have participated in Grand Prix proceedings. In fact, only 2 of them qualified and took part in the race. Out of a total of 771 pilots in the history of the crown of motor sports, men make up 99.8%.
More than Equal was announced last June and has already brought together some of the best scouts, fitness coaches, psychologists, nutritionists, driver coaches and drivers in the world who are working towards the initiative’s goal. A key partner in this effort is Hintsa Performanceworld leading company in the training of high performance athletes.
What does Coulthard say?
Speaking about the reasons that led him to implement it, Coulthard, who has 13 Grand Prix victories to his credit, said:I always thought that my sister, Lindsay Jackson, he had more talent than me. I just had the support and she didn’t. To succeed, one should cultivate one’s talent early on. So I would like every Lindsey to have the same as the men in her quest to reach F1 level and win».
The co-founder of the initiative, Karel Komarek, commented in turn: “My experience in business has taught me that there is always more that can be done for gender equality. “More than Equal” sets a new, bold and achievable goal that we hope together with David will highlight the potential of women in all areas: sports, business and society.».
As part of his visit to Greece, Coulthard was at OPAP’s offices, where he had the opportunity to present this initiative. In your turn, we had the opportunity to spend some time with him and exchange views about the program, the modern image of Formula 1, battles of the past and small-small which we will share with you in the next article.
