The place was not chosen at random by the police officers of the departmental brigade for the security of public transport (BDSTC): the bus stop where several lines stop is very provoked on a daily basis and in particular on Wednesdays after midday.
For the TBM agents, it is a question of checking whether the users are in possession of a transport ticket and, for the 12 police officers, of ensuring the security of the control but also of the passengers. “The first objective is to fight against fraud in public transport”, specifies Commissioner Louis Liversain, head of the public order service at the Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP). “Secondly, our presence must be visible and dissuasive to passengers who would like to evade checks. We verify the identity and, in the event of a lack of administrative document, we are able to take the person to the central police station. »
Detect Violations
This Wednesday, nearly 200 travelers passed through the hands of Keolis Bordeaux Métropole agents. Among them, Jérôme, a student, who arrives from Chartrons “to go do some shopping in town”. But he got on the bus without paying. The verdict falls: 72 euros fine to be paid within three days, otherwise it’s 50 euros more, for “file fees”. Beyond two months, if the amendment is not sensitive, it will be transmitted to the Public Treasury and will increase to 180 euros.
Beyond fraud, this type of control carried out in close partnership with the police makes it possible to fight against incivility, but also to decelerate offenses. “We can meet people known to our services and wanted in the context of legal proceedings,” observes commissioner Louis Liversain. “Today, we are targeting buses, but we also carry out this type of operation every week on the tram lines, at Saint-Jean station and at Quinconces. Officers from the Local Security Group and the Departmental Intervention Company are also patrolling alongside us. »
