Covid-19: the incidence rate is on the rise, will Monaco face an 8th wave?
All the indicators are there. And the 8th wave of Covid-19, announced by scientists, seems to be settling in the Principality. What impact will it have? Friday, during a back-to-school press conference, the Minister of State, Pierre Dartout, did not seem, for the time being, too worried.
“Since the end of August, we have observed an incidence rate stabilized at a relatively low level. (includes between 80 and 100) but in recent days there has been a spike in the number of cases, pushing the rolling 7-day incidence rate up to 120.1. However, fortunately, to date, the hospital situation is not worrying. But we are vigilant. This is why everyone must respect the barrier gestures, simple and very effective prevention measures.
The number of cases has doubled in a week
Since the start of the school year in Monaco, the number of new cases has increased, especially among the youngest. Last week, from September 12 to 18, 68 new positive cases of Covid-19 were revealed. This is twice as much as the week of September 5 to 11 with 34 new cases.
The incidence rate – i.e. the number of positive people reduced to a base of 100,000 people over the period of the past 7 days – rose to 174, while it was 87 the previous week.
There is no one in intensive care at the CHPG
However, the hospital situation, which remains an effective barometer of the health crisis, is not tense.
The number of people hospitalized at the CHPG is limited: on Sunday September 18, there were 9 people, including 3 residents. And there is no person being treated in intensive care.
As for the Home Monitoring Center, still active, which medically supports patients with few symptoms, who are invited to confine themselves to their homes, it records around forty patients.
So the eighth wave seems there. Not too surprising either.
Recovery Factors
The last two years have indeed shown the seasonality of the virus, whose circulation is favored by the arrival of the cold seasons. Other factors are added: the return to work and the return to work which reinforce social interactions in a closed place, the increase in the time delivered since the last vaccine injection and the failed vaccine coverage for the second booster.
