Zurich opens art and construction in the Herdernstrasse area
As reported by the City of Zurich, three works of art and construction around Herdernstrasse in Aussersihl will be presented to the public on October 7, 2022.
Recently, three different works of art and construction have been created in urban building projects along Herdernstraße, which are now presented in more detail.
As part of the opening, the responsible specialist department for art and construction of the office for structural engineering is organizing various work discussions with the responsible artists El Frauenfelder, Ilona Ruegg and Hannes Rickli for the interested public.
Her works have been conceived specifically for the respective locations. The opening on Friday, October 7, 2022 offers the opportunity to learn more about the creation of the works.
Works by El Frauenfelder, Ilona Rügg and Hannes Rickli
With her artistic intervention “Wand Ding” on the fire wall of the Herdern housing estate, El Frauenfelder 2020 created a monumental collage that celebrates material sensuality with flat relief bodies and develops local presence.
For the “capacity” for the disposal + recycling (ERZ) depot, Ilona Ruegg reproduced two of the troughs of the depot from bronze, metals and minerals, the very substances that can be obtained from the daily “waste” in thermo-recycling and thus created a work full of allusions on the subject of materials and recyclables.
Hannes Rickli’s work “Perle” for the Letzigrund stadium was extensively restored and extensively updated in 2021: White scrolling text is played on apparently randomly distributed displays, for example historical records, names of wild bees on the stadium roof or details of the surrounding district. The overall view results in a multi-layered poetic localization of the stadium.
The detailed program can be viewed on the website of the City of Zurich.
