Save fuel with this smart feature
It is the new function in Google Maps that should help both the climate and the wallet – if you are ready for a small detour.
The new function is intended to make it possible to drive more sustainably around Europe. They write that themselves in one blog post.
The new function works in this way, when you enter the selected destination in Google Maps, the service shows which route costs the least in fuel and is adapted to the type of engine in the car.
You enter the destination and starting point, and tick whether you want to use a fuel-saving route. You then enter the type of fuel the car runs on – electric, hybrid, diesel or petrol.
In this way, you can save a little on fuel and at the same time do the climate a favor by using less fuel.
Rolls out continuously
The feature will be gradually rolled out to consumers. It is unknown when it will reach Norwegian consumers, but you can follow along in the application yourself.
Reduce consumption
In Denmark, an example has been set up of how consumption can be reduced by choosing to drive a route that saves driving.
On a rush-hour journey from, for example, Silkeborg to Randers (55.8 km), you can reduce fuel consumption by up to 25% via a 4-minute longer time.
On the route Copenhagen-Gilleleje (62.2 km) you can reduce the energy consumption in an electric car by 10% with just 1 minute longer journey. However, variable calculations constantly depending on traffic and time of day.
