A new Pechmanových street was created in Prague 9 PRAGUE 9 | News
In Vysočany in the Municipal District of Prague 9, housing construction is growing literally like mushrooms after the rain. The days of a purely working-class neighborhood are long gone. Contemporary Vysočany offers modern living with parks and civic amenities. One of the newly emerging development projects is the Emil Kolben District, which is also requesting new street names. The first was named after the prominent Pechman resistance family.
The Pechman family was not only very involved in the Falcon Movement, for example building new falconry in Michli, but at the same time provided significant support to the paratroopers in Operation Anthropoid, which exacted a severe toll in the form of Nazi retaliation.
Wife Marie and son Jaroslav were murdered in the Mauthausen concentration camp in January 1943. Only daughter Milena survived. Mr. Miloslav Hrubý later married Hrubni, who came to remember the Pechman family on the occasion of naming the street.
At the event, at the end of which was the ceremonial unveiling of the new street, the City District of Prague 9, the Czechoslovak Obec Legionářská, Rota Nazdar and Initiative A will probably appear.
Along with Pechmanových Street, the newly emerging Emil Kolben District will acquire four more street names after the Hejl, Oktábc, Fafk and Terezia Kaliberová families. All are heavily involved in the fight against the Third Reich, and all have paid with their lives.
