In the recent women’s polo championship, three of the top six teams competed with Greek coaches. The Greek polo coaching community abroad has twenty members. From China to England and from Australia to Germany wet track gives… confidence in the know-how of our coaches, who are old polo players. Our coaches created the “Greek school”, which is respected in the global sports community.
The rise of the Greek pole is not only reflected in the successes of our national teams but also in the confidence which, at the international level, surrounds the Greek coach. Countries like China, the Netherlands, Israel, Kuwait, etc. they trust their national teams or academies in Greek hands, while our coaches are sought after by clubs abroad.
The Chinese trusted Sakis Pavlidis and his team to… build the national woman of the future. “Of the thirteen gymnasts, eleven have left. We are building the new team with the main goal of the year to win the Asian championship. The Chinese have been impressed because, without having infrastructure (swimming pools, etc.), we have such a high level in polo, but also by the way we work in Greece. They want to take our know-how”, the experienced coach told “K”.
One country after another gives a vote of confidence to the Greek coaches.
In the recent championship, the national team of Israel faced the Greek team. The ranking of Israel in the top six is largely due to Dimitris Mavrotas: “In Greece the point is at a higher level. The way our coaches work in the clubs is a pole of attraction. Altogether there are various schools and Greece has its own which is based on a combination of the Serbian and Mediterranean schools. Also the Greeks, even though we don’t believe, we are slavers. Especially in our field, the coaches are among the hardest workers,” the coach told us.
Sakis Kehagias currently coaches Spandau Berlin, in the past he coached the national teams of Romania (men) and Australia (women), while he also went through Egypt: “The preference has to do with the ability of our coaches who are qualified . but also with the successes of our national teams and our clubs”, he told us, while when we asked him what he feels when his team faces a Greek team, he replied: “There are always emotions and especially when you face your country’s national team. But that’s before the start…”.
Lambros Anastasopoulos, president of the Greek Water Polo Coaches Association, also attributes the popularity of our coaches to the excellent technique: “The level is high and highly qualified. This is proven on the one hand by the great successes at the national collective level in recent years, and on the other hand by the export of Greek techniques abroad, where they are in demand. Continuous development and technical training is the main pillar of SEPY, through its continuous training seminars with the leading coaches in the world as presenters.
