Monaco continues against Reims
For the 8th day of Ligue 1, AS Monaco moved on the lawn of the Stade de Reims with the objective of chaining a third victory in a row in the Championship and to bounce back after the defeat at home in the Europa League against Ferencvaros. Philippe Clément bet on the Ben Yedder-Embolo duo and the young Maghnes Akliouche. Oscar Garcia’s Rémois presented themselves with a five-man defense.
After a fairly balanced start to the match where the two teams observed each other, the match changed after the rather severe exclusion of Bradley Locko. The latter, after an uncontrolled gesture, left his partners at ten for a good part of the match (22nd). A new red card for Reims who have therefore already finished 5 games in numerical inferiority since the start of the season. Yet, despite this numbers disadvantage, Reims showed a consistent face and significantly hampered an uninspired Monegasque team.
Minamino opens his counter but
Dominating, Wissam Ben Yedder’s teammates were narrowly in the final act and created very few chances. It was even Reims who managed to solicit Alexander Nubel in this match. But on returning from the locker room, Monaco finally broke Aleksandr Golovin. After a very fine cross from Disasi, the Russian took the lead and allowed the team to take the lead (47th, 1-0). And while we would have liked the club of the principality to unfold, Reims held on and could even have come back.
On the hour mark, the Rémois even thought of equalizing thanks to Folarin Balogun on a corner well struck by Junya Ito, but the but was logically refused for an offside position. And despite several other Reims opportunities, it was Monaco who still made the way to the net tremble. The Japanese Minamino sealed the victory of his team by securing his face to face (2-0, 87th) before Ben Yedder reassured himself in the last seconds (3-0, 90th). Without convincing, Monaco continues its good rise in the standings and is now in 5th place. Reims is 16th.
