City guide Tanguy Ottomer launches search for best brown pub | Antwerp
AntwerpThe best brown bar in town? It is the question about city guide and Professional Tanguy Ottomer wants an answer. He launched a online poll where Antwerp residents can vote for seventeen bars in the center of Antwerp. In this way, Ottomer wants to draw attention to the value of brown bars and have their interiors protected as cultural heritage.

Den Engel, Pelikaan, Quinten Matsys, Oud Arsenaal, Scaldis, De Duifkens … If you want to drink a good pint in a brown bar in Antwerp, you have plenty of choice. To ensure that this remains the case, city guide Tanguy Ottomer launched a poll to draw attention to brown bars.
Wrinkles of a cafe
“Brown pubs are the soul of the city, it is cultural heritage that must be preserved,” said Ottomer. “There are plenty of bars that are disappearing because the new owner wants to turn them into a hip coffee bar or something similar. although the cultural heritage value of such pubs is particularly important. A brown pub has history, I call it ‘the wrinkles of a café’: there is an atmosphere that you cannot just copy.”
You can vote on the poll until the end of October, there is a choice of seventeen pubs within postcode 2000. More than 400 voted in 24 hours. “At the end of the month I want to see which pub should receive a protected status according to the Antwerp resident. . All brown bars may be protected by me, but which bar has the most charm? In that cafe I give a barrel to celebrate the best brown bar in town,” concludes Ottomer.
