Prague – Thousands of people passed through Prague today to support breast cancer patients and their loved ones. According to the organizers’ first estimate, roughly 10,000 people took part in the twentieth year of the march. Michal Čech, representative of the organizers, told ČTK. The ticket to the march and accompanying program on Štvanice is traditionally a pink T-shirt. This year, they collected nine million crowns from the sale of T-shirts and other products. The money is used to help the sick and for this disease. This year’s event takes place after a two-year break, during the entire existence of the Avon March for Healthy Breasts project, almost 150 million crowns have already been collected.
The participants of the parade gathered at Hradčanské náměstí from approximately 10:00 a.m. They set off around noon after the ceremonial cutting of the starting tape, accompanied by a group of drummers around the Prague Castle to Letná and across the Kapitán Jaroš embankment and the Hlávkův bridge they reached Štvanice Island, where the afternoon program was held. A musical program was prepared for the participants, as well as, for example, a stand where women can learn breast self-examination.
Proceeds from the sale of t-shirts and products are directed, among other things, to support the Bellis project, which helps patients under the age of 45, the collection also supports the Alliance of Women with Breast Cancer, the Association of Mammodiagnostics or the Healthy Breasts for the Deaf project.
OF is about the incidence of cancer it follows that there are currently about a third more new cases than when screening was introduced in 2002. However, thanks to earlier detection of tumors, the number of women who succumb to the disease each year is decreasing, Jan Daneš, the founder of the screening program, who is an expert guarantor, said in May Avon march.
According to the latest available data, 1,800 women died of breast cancer in 2018, and doctors detected over 7,800 tumors. In 1990, a similar number of women succumbed to cancer, but doctors then detected only about 3,500 tumors.
Screening is what doctors call the examination of healthy people, but who are more likely to be at risk, for example due to age. Women from the age of 45 can undergo a mammographic examination of the breast once every two years, paid for by public health insurance. For younger doctors, they recommend a gentler sonographic examination, which, although not free, is reimbursed by health insurance companies.
