Brian Laudrup – Removed from TV job
Denmark’s former national team star Brian Laudrup (53) has finished as a football expert in his home country on assignment for TV2. The reason is that he has promoter Dubai.
The 53-year-old is also not allowed to continue in the podcast for the Danish newspaper Politiken.
In a promotional video, Laudrup praises the surroundings in Dubai. The emirate is expected to receive some of the fans who are going to the World Cup finals in Qatar in November and December.
– His behavior is surprising
– Not compatible
At home in Denmark, the promotion has not been well received. Laudrup is no longer allowed to be an expert for Danish TV2.
– We have agreed together to stop the collaboration. It is not compatible with the campaign he is participating in right now, says the channel’s sports manager Frederik Lauesen.
Laudrup was originally supposed to have the job for TV2 around Denmark’s upcoming international matches against Croatia and France in the national league.
Politiken has also chosen to cut ties with Laudrup. A new football podcast entitled «Brian and Bolden» was shut down after just one episode.
– The decision does not change our great respect for Brian Laudrup, his experience and knowledge of football. But in a situation where he advertises the WC in Qatar via Visit Dubai, it is incompatible with our standards for critical and independent journalism, says editor-in-chief Amalie Kestler.
Dubai, like the rest of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, has been criticized for being on the verge of human rights.

Legend status
Laudrup is regarded as one of Denmark’s best footballers. In the 90s he played for clubs such as Bayern Munich, Fiorentina, Milan, Rangers, Chelsea and Ajax. He was also part of the Danish national team that won the EC in 1992.
His older brother Michael is probably the best Danish player of all time. He was central to big clubs like Lazio, Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Ajax.
