After the start of the war in February, some town halls gradually complained about allowing Ukrainians to park their cars in Prague’s residential zones, which received negative responses. Criticism of the benevolence of parking vehicles with Ukrainian license plates was repeatedly heard in the public space, but at the same time, opposing voices were also recorded, on the contrary, they reproached and reproached the critics for the lack of understanding for refugees from the war-torn country. The metropolis does not plan to change the existing rules, Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr (Praha Sobě) said when asked by the Pražský patriot server.
In some areas of Prague, it is difficult for residents to find a free space in paid parking zones in the long term. In connection with the war conflict and the wave of fugitives, somewhere with many cars from Ukraine, the situation continues to be a war of war, which residents complained about at the town halls over time.
“We will set aside free parking spaces so that people from Ukraine can park there. We are focusing on the outskirts of Prague, where it will be easy to transfer to public transport, which people fleeing the war have for free. The goal is not to take up resident parking,” Deputy Scheinherr said about a week after the start of the war.
In the end, the municipality allocated free parking for up to 130 cars with Ukrainian license plates at the new P+R parking lot on Černý Most. The measure is still in effect today. At the same time, in response to the war, Ukrainians were allowed to park in residential zones. For this, they are issued a parking permit, the same as residents. The price is usually 1200 crowns per year.

In order to get a Ukrainian driver’s license, he must meet certain rules. Be a visa holder, have permanent or temporary residence in the area for which you are applying for a permit and be the owner or authorized user of a vehicle. “They basically have the same rules as residents,” confirmed municipality spokesman Vít Hofman. According to Deputy Scheinherr, there are no plans to change the existing rules for parking cars of Ukrainians.
Whether Prague drivers like the parking of Ukrainians in the zones or not, it is impossible to act like the man who was detained by criminal investigators from the department of extremism and terrorism of the Prague police in recent days.
According to their findings, from mid-April to early September of this year, he destroyed 35 tires on parked cars with a drill, which caused damage of over 100,000 crowns. All vehicles had Ukrainian “espezets”. Prague police spokesman Jan Daněk informed about the case.
