Prague 5 hosts Street Art For Freedom | PRAGUE 5 | News
Art in public space to celebrate freedom. This is the Street Art For Freedom exhibition, the second part of which now decorates the square on October 14 in front of the St. Wenceslas Church.
“We are following up on the cooperation we started in the spring with the Italian city of Pistoia, where these paintings that we can see here today were actually exhibited in the very center of the city, and we are opening Prague 5 to young people, because Prague 5 deserves to emphasize the young generation, ” said the mayor of the Prague 5 district, Renáta Zajíčková.
“I think that street art is a very interesting part of art, and of course we also enjoy the fact that it’s not in a gallery somewhere, but it’s out here on the square,” added Lukáš Herold, 1st Deputy Mayor of Prague 5.
The international art project Street Art For Freedom has been searching for new talents and giving opportunities to young artists for ten years. A total of ten creators presented themselves, who created their works of art for four days right in front of the St. Wenceslas Church in Prague 5. The ceremonial presentation of the works was also attended by their authors. Canadian artist David Strauzz was one of the artists who gave artistic freedom to the square.
“I didn’t want it to be just one layer. For me it means freedom, that I’m an artist, that I’m healthy, that I can paint and think about a lot of things like existentialism, so the three philosophers, writers write or have written what freedom means for them and for me it’s something similar,” street artist David Strauzz described his work.
In addition to the leadership of Prague 5 City Hall, the director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague, Fabrizio Lurláno, also attended the opening ceremony.
