Muroya hospitalized after blood kick
Once again he showed a tremendous performance. 96 right-back Sei Muroya (28) ran up and down the line in the 3-2 win in Sandhausen, prepared Cedric Teuchert’s 1-0 lead and scored the important 3-1 – his second goal of the season.
In stoppage time, he injured himself badly. In the duel he was unhappily punched in the face by the foot of substitute Abu-Bekir El-Zein and fell to the ground bleeding. After minutes of treatment, the Japanese played on and even had a huge chance to make it 4-2.
The shock after the game: Muroya complained of a severe headache and was immediately taken to a clinic in nearby Heidelberg.
Muroya hospitalized after horrific crash
Trainer Stefan Leitl (45) shocked: “Sei has a pretty bad headache. The nose is probably broken. He was bleeding profusely, will stay here for checks and will go to the hospital to see if he has any other facial injuries, which of course we hope not.”
Team manager Fabio Morena drove Muroya to Heidelberg. There should be a suspicion of a zygomatic fracture. The team returns to Hanover in the bus without Muroya.
What a bitter end to a strong performance. 96 celebrated their first ever victory in Sandhausen and climbed to third place. Goalscorer Havard Nielsen: “We want to stay up there.”
For Muroya, the dream has been shattered at the international matches on 23.9. against the USA and on 27.9. to be there against Ecuador. The Japanese federation had only nominated him on call, although both games will be played in Düsseldorf. Sports director Marcus Mann (38) before the game to BILD: “I would have treated Sei because he has played well in the last few weeks.”
After a serious facial injury, Muroya now has to take a break. The game after the international break against HSV (September 30th) is also very much at risk.
Muroya has 16 caps, his last 14 months ago (1-0 in World Cup qualifiers against China). He was last in the Japan squad in November (1-1 against Vietnam).
