Vienna, we remain firmly on the side of Alto Adige – Trentino AA / S

‘Restore the skills cut by the Council’

(ANSA) – BOLZANO, 15 SEPTEMBER – “The Austrian government continues to be firmly on the side of Alto Adige in exercising its protective function”. This was underlined by the Austrian Chancellor and President of the People’s Party Oevp Karl Nehammer after a meeting with SVP President Philipp Achammer this evening in Vienna.

According to Nehammer, the Austrian government “follows and supports the efforts for autonomy” of Governor Arno Kompatscher and the South Tyrolean junta. The canceller reiterated the need to restore the powers cut with the ruling of the Council in reference to the constitutional reform of 2001.

“The Austrian government has already asked the Italian government several times to address the issue in a constructive exchange between Rome and Bolzano. We will also renew this request to the government that will take office on 25 September”, underlined the new chancellor afterwards.

The 50th anniversary of the Second Statute of Autonomy – according to Nehammer – is proof of the good cross-border collaboration, which has been taking place on different levels for years. With the international anchoring, the South Tyrolean question “was also solved in an exemplary way for other comparable conflicts”.

Finally, the leader of the Oevp congratulated on the recent reappointment of Achammer as head of the SVP. “I thank the chancellor and the secretary of the Oevp for their loyal support for our requests,” said Achammer. (HANDLE).
