The City Council of Prague 5 approved the winner of the open architectural competition for a new wedding hall. It will grow in the upper part of the Sacré Coeur park in a place that is a spatial plan intended for public amenities. The design of the architect Václav Škarda was successful. The town hall wants to use the new wedding pavilion for other social and cultural events, with use for the public.
“Park Sacré Coeur is an oasis of greenery and calm above the busy intersection of the shopping center, and we have been trying to promote this oasis for a long time. Not long ago, we selected the contractor of the gazebo, which will also attract evening visits to the park. The residents of Prague 5 have already earned the new ceremony hall and I believe they will enjoy their wedding day in this picturesque setting,” said Deputy Mayor for Culture Lukáš Herold (ODS).
The expert jury chose from 19 proposals in a two-round competition, 5 finalists advanced to the second round. The design of the architect Václav Škarda won, whose pavilion was highly rated especially for its quality location in the park.
The hall should be in the eastern part of the park, which is on the slope between Holečkova and Kartouzská streets. According to earlier information, the ceremony hall should have a capacity of about 100 people, of which 40 to 60 can be seated. In addition to the large hall, there should be a cafe and a gallery in the building.
The building has a lapidary longitudinal composition, which places the hall to the north, in a quiet part of the park, while the cafe, on the other hand, has south and southeast views on a slight terrain elevation. The axis of the access road leads to the glass foyer with a view of Prague. The jury was also impressed by the design, as well as the consideration for the surrounding trees and greenery.
“The expert jury evaluated the architectural-urbanistic and landscape solutions, operational-functional solutions and the effectiveness of the construction and energy concept. It was essential for us to sensitively integrate the building into the organism of the park, as well as certain sustainability in terms of operating costs”, said jury member and chairwoman of the Committee for Territorial Development of Prague 5 Zuzana Hamanová (STAN).
The winner of the competition is now awaiting the finalization of the building design and the preparation of documentation for the issuance of a joint zoning decision and building permit. The city will be the investor in the construction, and the first couple could be married in the romantic setting of the Sacré Coeur park in 2025.
