Toulouse: first groundbreaking for the 3rd metro line in December
After the preparatory work which started more than a year ago, the start of construction of the 3rd metro line is properly scheduled for December.
Work to deviate the underground networks for the construction of the 3rd metro line, Colomiers-Labège, which should see the light of day at the end of 2028, already began last year. We remember for example, in the spring of 2021, the five months of blocking of the avenue du Faubourg-Bonnefoy which must accommodate a station. Or this summer the closure of rue des Frères-Lion, in front of Place Dupuy, in the area of the François-Verdier station to be built under the war memorial. Several other points on the route are now affected in this way.
And that’s just the beginning. The inhabitants of Toulouse, who have already known for certain works on lines A and B, will live to the rhythm of the construction site of the century. The peak is expected between 2023 and 2026 with around forty work sites simultaneously along the route. The five tunnel boring machines were due to arrive towards the end of 2023, explained Tisséo Collectivités during the vote on the final draft, i.e. the announcement of the schedule, in June 2021.
The unknown of the monument to the dead
The time for the official start of work on the line itself is approaching. This should take place in December with the digging of two relief wells, those of Sept-Deniers and Launaguet, and the construction of the connection structure to the Daturas workshop garage, not far from the Ernest-Wallon Stadium. The elected officials who sit on Tisséo Collectivités are preparing to notify the major civil engineering contracts by the end of the year, the digging of tunnels and stations.
Among other predictable black spots for car traffic: the crossroads in front of the war memorial, boulevard Carnot, which is also the hub of several bus lines. Tisséo is still waiting for an expert to know what to do with the war memorial, move it a few meters or more, or dismantle it piece by piece.
