More than 70 gatherings this Saturday in Pas-de-Calais for World Clean Up Day
In 2021, more than 10,000 kilos of waste were collected in Pas-de-Calais.
This Saturday, September 17 is World Clean Up Day, the world day for cleaning up the planet, carried by the association of the same name. It is therefore a question of collecting as much waste and cigarette butts as possible and of doing better than last year, as explained by Louise Gommeaux, coordinator of World Clean Up Day in Pas-de-Calais. ” In 2021, there were more than 4,200 participants for approximately 10,000 kilos of waste and 145,700 cigarette butts collected. Several communities in Pas-de-Calais are in partnership with the company TchaoMégot, which cleans up cigarette butts to transform them into eco-designed insulating material. This insulation is used in construction or for the padding of down jackets.
The World Clean Up Day, more than a day of waste collection
If it’s a matter of rolling up her sleeves for a moment, Louise Gommeaux wants to see this day as an opportunity to raise awareness. “ It’s a day of solidarity that allows people to come together to save the planet, but it should also allow us to change our consumption habits. We must not forget to mention the companies and associations that set up actions to recover their waste. It’s not just picking up, far from it. »
