It would push the installation of solar panels in the capital
As part of the German government’s press program, the Metropolitan Municipality prepared a solar map together with the Hungarian Solar Solar Collector Association, which can be used to determine which buildings are worth installing solar panels much more precisely than before – Deputy Mayor Gábor Kerpel-Frónius introduced the program on Wednesday. A total of 345,000 objects were identified with the help of a complex GIS system, among which, in addition to residential buildings, there are also a good number of facilities and public institutions.
The greatest potential is the XV. is in the district, the outer districts with plenty of single-family zones can also perform well, and in some of them the installation wave is already strong.
“By installing ten million square meters of solar panels, we could greatly reduce Budapest’s emissions and energy dependence. To this end, the widespread distribution and integration of solar energy into the life of Budapest, initiated by the Capital City Municipality,” he said.
Solar panels currently account for less than 1 percent of all electricity consumption in Budapest. In order to meet the climate goals laid down in the Budapest Climate Strategy, the current solar panel capacities in the capital must be increased 130 times. In the Budapest Climate Strategy, the Capital undertook to achieve a 40 percent reduction in the capital’s carbon dioxide emissions by 2030.
By installing solar panels with a total output of 150 megawatts, i.e. ten million square meters, we would save nearly five hundred thousand tons of carbon dioxide emissions. This is as much as is released into the atmosphere from the annual electricity consumption of all Budapest residents. As a result of the solar program, Budapest’s total CO emissions would decrease by eight.
Ámon Ada, the head of the Climate and Environment Department of the Office of the Mayor, told our newspaper: this year and next, even in the stretched budget, several billion forints will be provided for profitable energy saving investments. At this stage, solar panels are installed on the roofs of social institutions, nursing homes and some cultural institutions.
When asked what kind of investments the companies in the capital have made or will make, he said: almost all of them have made significant projects in this field, the Capital Sewerage Works, for example, also use biogas, but most companies already have solar panels and other things on their buildings. are posted.
The Metropolitan Municipality does not have the resources and authority to independently solve the complex problems of urban energy supply and environmental protection. The Capital City is obliged to take part in the promotion of solar developments in Budapest, involving all stakeholders: the population, the electricity supplier, public transport, district municipalities, expenses and sector experts.
Ernő Kiss, of the Hungarian Solar Collector Association (MNNSZ), which brings together more than 300 industry companies, said that the solar market has never seen more development in Hungary, and even for a residential-sized solar panel, favorable performance indicators can be achieved: with below-average consumption and price levels, 8 -10 years, 4-5 years in the above category.
“Increased energy costs are of the order of hundreds of thousands of interest among our member companies. However, it is worth waiting patiently for the specialists of the Ministry of the Interior, because the explosive increase in demand is causing the number of companies installing solar panels to multiply like mushrooms, often without adequate background, tools and references,” warned the specialist.
