Tram in the upper part of Václavák, scooters in the bus lane. Traffic changes await Prague | Transport | News | Prague Gossip
The capital is preparing big changes for public transport and drivers. Trams will be introduced to the upper part of Wenceslas Square, motorbikes will be allowed in the lane for buses, and the preparation of the Vítězné náměstí bypass has begun. In addition, it also promises benefits for Lítáčka holders.
The work will take about three years
600 meters of new tram line should be built in the upper part of Wenceslas Square. The transport company has now put out a tender for the construction contractor. “This is a reconstruction for the purposes of an architectural competition that took place in 2005. The tram will be located on the sides and there will be a pedestrian promenade in the middle. We will preserve the tree line there, which will be supplemented by one,” informed the councilor for transport at a press conference Adam Scheinherr (Prague to himself).
It is a contract worth 1.25 billion crowns, construction should start at the beginning of next year and the work will last about three years. According to the press release of the transport company, it could be four years. It also includes the repair of the vestibule of the Muzeum subway station and the construction of rainwater retention tanks.
“The fact that we will connect the tram line from Vinohradská street to Jindřišská and Vodičkova will relieve us of the intersections at Karlov náměstí and at Lazarská and Spálené, which are actually the first and second busiest in the world, given the intensity of arriving trams on weekdays.” added Scheinherr.
Motorcycles do not restrict the driving of ambulances or firefighters
The council also decided on the winner of the public contract for the project documentation of the Vítězná náměstí bypass, the communication link between Evropská and Svatovítská streets. It will be designed by Pudis for 11.2 million without VAT. “For the next two to three years, design work will take place, after which construction will begin,” stated Scheinherr.
Drivers of motorbikes and scooters will see big changes from the beginning of next year. “We submitted a request to the road administration office for a change in the conditions of reserved lanes for buses in Prague. Motorcycles could now drive into them. It is also a suitable support for scooters. He has to go between the bus and the cars and it is better to keep to the outermost lane by the shoulder. At the same time, we do not see that this measure would in any way disrupt the operation of the integrated rescue system or the buses themselves,” explained Scheinherr.
With Lítáčka for free to use the toilet in the metro
New rules for the purchase of trams will also apply in Prague. “All newly purchased vehicles are low-floor, air-conditioned, and have two spaces for a wheelchair or stroller. There will be a clearly defined availability and number of buttons for sign stops,” press Scheinherr.
The transport company is preparing two advantages for passengers with Lítáčka. He wants to give subscribers free access to the basics in the metro and the opportunity to store their bikes for free in the newly built bike sheds. These will be, for example, at the Luka metro station, in Slivenec or at Černý most.
