The price of electricity in Prague: People pay an average of up to 10,000 crowns after the ceiling, says the councillor
On Monday, the government set the maximum prices for small customers for power electricity at six crowns including VAT for one kilowatt hour (kWh), and for gas at three crowns per kWh. With the addition of distribution fees, the total price will be between seven and nine crowns. According to government representatives, municipalities or public institutions should purchase energy through a state energy trader.
According to Chabra, there are 695,365 households receiving electricity in the metropolis. In the case of gas, it is 370,354, of which 211,131 heat with gas. Chabr said he thinks the government’s solution makes sense, even if the prices will be higher than what has been customary, they should not be liquidating for households.
Lower prices
As for securing energy for the city, according to the councilor, the municipality will try to achieve even lower prices through the state energy trader than what will be ensured by capping. He added that there is a debate about whether these purchases should not include, in addition to municipalities and their contribution organizations, joint-stock companies that are 100 percent owned by the city and that provide public services. “For example, the operation of public transport is a public service, but it is operated by a joint-stock company owned by the city,” he said.
Now the municipality has secured electricity for itself and its organization from Pražská energetika until the end of this year. According to earlier statements, the city paid 110 to 150 euros per MWh this year, the ceiling price, according to Chabra, corresponds to 200 euros per MWh. In connection with the energy crisis, the municipality is also preparing cost-saving measures, in winter it plans to lower the heating temperature. Councilors have already approved a tender for the construction of a water feeder from the Vltava, which should be heated in the New Town Hall building with the help of heat pumps.
