The use of “dead spots” in Prague in an innovative way, there are more and more examples of these in the capital. The latest addition is the ambitious project of the skateboarding “Cathedral” under the arch of the Barrandov flyover, which is supposed to satisfy the growing demand for sports venues of this type. The owner of the land intended for construction is the former first lady Dagmar Havlová.
“The largest skateboarding park in the Czech Republic, where hundreds of athletes will find use, which will also enable international competitions. It will be for not only skateboarders, but of course also for skaters and scooter riders,” said David Dušek (STAN), Councilor of Prague 5, who initiated the project.
On Monday, September 12, Dagmar Havlová signed a memorandum of intent to build a sports park with Praha 5. The town hall has already started negotiations with co-investors. The name of the future skateboard sanctuary was created on the basis of the massive concrete vault from below the bridge that arches over the space of the future sports park.
“Prague 5 greatly appreciates Dagmar Halová’s willingness to contribute in a fundamental way to the development of attractive sports sectors such as skating,” says David Dušek.
Dagmar Halová said when signing the memorandum: “I joined the collaboration mainly because I have known David Dušek since his childhood, because his family from the dissident environment belonged to my husband’s close circle. It is therefore a guarantee of the project for me.” She added that Prague 5 really needs more outdoor sports fields.
