The film about Josef Mysliveček will represent the Czechia at the Oscars
This year, the Czech Film and Television Academy decided to send Il Boemo by director and screenwriter Petr Václav to the fight for the Oscar for the Czech Republic. It should come to Czech cinemas on October 20.
The film has long been awaited not only in music circles Il Boemoapproximating the fate of one of the most famous Czech classical composers – Josef Mysliveček, which in the 18th century was able to establish itself in the huge competition in Italy. Director Peter Václav he has been preparing the film for more than ten years and is also the author of its script. Next to Vojtěch Dykwho will portray Mysliveček himself, cast actresses in the main roles Barbara Ronchi, Elena Radonicich AND Lan Vlady.
The leading Czech baroque orchestra was responsible for the authentic performance of Mysliveček’s music in the film Collegium 1704 under the direction of the conductor Václav Luks and soloists such as Filip Jaroušský, Simona Šaturová, Raffaella Milanesi or Emőke Baráth. The film was shot in the Czech Republic and Italy and was a Czech-Italian-Slovak co-production.
Voting for the Czech Oscar candidate took place from August 29 to September 9. Academics Czech Film and Television Academy they chose from 15 Czech feature films and documentaries. The Oscar “shortlist” of foreign films will be published December 21 nominations will be announced January 24th.
