Marathon fever among fit karar in the islands
Four from the islands are going on a marathon this month. At the end of the month, the course from Rennesøy to the Berlin Marathon was set, and all coming weekends travel from Fogn to the half-marathon in Copenhagen.
RENNESØY: Jarle Bjerga and Torbjørn Høie from Rennesøy will run the Berlin Marathon together on Sunday 25 September. The two friends are skilled marathon runners, with several full and half marathons behind them – both domestically and abroad.
Blood on teeth after Ryfast race
After Jarle Bjerga got “blood on his teeth” in the Ryfastløpet in 2019, our ambition is to complete a marathon in less than three hours before turning 40.
– It was the Ryfast race that got me started with a little more serious jumping. Eg. was lucky and made rapid progress, and became increasingly motivated. This has resulted in quite a few marathon races. As I have a sedentary job, I know that jumping does me good, both in my body and in my head, says Bjerga to Øyposten.
Torbjørn Høie had his first heilmarathon in London last year.
Earlier this summer, both participated in the ultramarathon “Lysefjorden inn”, which is 62 kilometers in the terrain along the entire Lysefjord.
Jarle Bjerga finished in eight hours and 30 minutes, while Torbjørn Høie spent 10 hours and a quarter.
– It was actually not as hard as it sounds. The pace is slower, I went up the steepest hills and there were food stations along the way. We might do it again, not to “press” new records, but mostly to experience our guilt, says Høie.
Must go to Finnøy to train
– How do I spend on training during the week?
– Right now, at the most intense pace towards Berlin, I train between five and six days a week, some days it is doubled. I try to vary a bit between asphalt, terrain and track. But it’s a bit special right now in the uppkøringa, says Jarle Bjerga.
Every Tuesday evening they drive from Rennesøy to the running track at Sentralskulen on Finnøy to train. Round and round for a while.
– Why to Finnøy?
– It’s because the track here is the closest I can get to a “real” running track. The tire is good and it’s light on the track in the evening, says Torbjørn Høie.
– What are the expectations in Berlin?
– My goal is to complete under three hours and thirty minutes, Torbjørn Høie says quickly.
– I stuck to the ambition of finishing under three hours cleanly, says Jarle Bjerga.
