A little history
78 years and one day ago, Dijon was liberated. The Germans left the city the day before. The Resistance and the allied soldiers represent the possession of the capital of Burgundy without practically firing a shot.
It is 9:15 this morning of September 11, 1944 when the first Allied soldiers enter the city. They emerge as heroes on the town hall square, at the time Place Maréchal Pétain. The population, in jubilation, gives them an ovation. These military forces arrive from everywhere, they had taken the German troops in a pincer movement, forced to leave the city. It is therefore in a city almost deserted by the enemy that the Allied soldiers arrive.
Then will follow, Builder (Saône-et-Loire) on September 4, Chalon-sur-Saone (Saône-et-Loire) on 5 and Beaune (Côte-d’Or) on September 8.
