4,900 inhabitants came to Prague in half a year. Mainly people who immigrated
The number of inhabitants of Prague increased by 4,893 to 1.28 million in the first half of the year. More people were born than died. But the main cause of the error was immigration to the capital. This follows from information published today by the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ).
6,588 children were born in Prague from January to the end of June. On the contrary, 6,243 people died in the same period. There were 345 more births than deaths in the metropolis in the first half of the year.
As a result of the move, the number of inhabitants of the capital increased by 4,548 people. In the first six months of this year, 22,600 new residents came to Prague and 18,052 people left.
From January to June, statistics in Prague record 2,741 marriages. There were 1,241 divorces in Prague in the first half of the year.
The population of the entire Czech Republic increased by 900 to 10,526 million in the first half of this year. More people died than were born, so the increase was ensured entirely by foreign migration.
However, the figure does not include Ukrainian citizens who were granted temporary protection by the Czechia after Russia attacked their country. According to the Foreigners’ Information System, there were approximately 373,000 of them at the end of the first half of the year.
The capital remains the second most populous region of the Czech Republic. The Central Bohemian Region is still in first place, where over 1.39 million people lived at the end of June. The South Moravian and Moravian-Silesian Regions also have more than a million inhabitants.
