The tenth district will receive a subsidy of 100 million crowns from the Prague municipality. It will go to the reconstruction of the New Terrible School, also known as the “old school”. The financial support results from the memorandum of cooperation approved this week by the Tenth Ward Council. Jan Hamrník, the spokesperson of the town hall, informed about it.
The reconstruction of the school was started by the town hall at the end of May this year, the construction work will last 26 months and the total budget is 312.8 million crowns. The school will have a capacity of 360 pupils.
“In the memorandum, the Municipality states that they will support us financially, of course depending on the possibilities of their budget,” described Martin Sekal (ODS), deputy mayor of the Prague 10 Municipal Council, who has been in charge of education since the end of June, when David Kašpar was dismissed by the council (VLASTA /TENT).
“The support comes at a difficult time, in which it is very difficult for every part of the city to carry out such large-scale reconstructions, they are crucial and necessary for the future. Construction work can therefore continue successfully,” says 1st Deputy Mayor Jana Komrsková (Pirates).
The art nouveau school has been maintained as a cultural monument since 2014, but classes have not been held in it for thirteen years. It was waiting for reconstruction until this May.
“Children can look forward to 12 regular classrooms, a dining room with a new kitchen. A sports field with a low grandstand will be built next to the school, paths, trees and rest areas will be added in the park west of the building,” said Olga Koumarová (ODS), Prague 10 councilor for investments and elementary and kindergarten buildings.
According to her, the reconstruction project respects the original listed building and the intention of the original authors, from an urban planning point of view it is sensitive to the surroundings. The project also includes modern elements that make the stay more pleasant for students and cantors. For example, there will be a new elevator at the courtyard facade that will connect all floors of the school and thus enable wheelchair access.
