Nielsen reveals his goal secret
This guy is Mister Cool – and a real derby expert!
2014 Havard Nielsen (29) met for Braunschweig, won 3-0 against Hannover. Eight years later the next derby goal – this time he saved at least one point and the series (now five games without defeat) with his shot to 1-1.
Nielsen: “It feels okay, I’m not dissatisfied. We’re five games unbeaten, we’re on the right track, we’ve made up one, we’ve fought to the end. That’s positive. It was a solid performance.”
Until the 1:1 it seemed to be an unlucky day for the Norwegian. Nielsen only hit the crossbar twice, lost the header duel against Anthony Ujah (69th) before the 0:1. From the outside, there were repeated lectures from coach Stefan Leitl because his favorite student wasn’t brave enough. But Nielsen didn’t give up – and was rewarded.
Nielsen reveals his goal secret.
The new signing from Fürth: “After the second hit of the bar I thought: Phew, today it will be difficult with a goal… But at the same time I also said to myself: Now you were twice as close, your next chance will come. I used that as motivation and then said to myself: Hey, you can score another goal today or you won’t sleep well tonight.”
After 77 minutes the time had come. Phil Neumann served the substitute Cedric Teuchert with a good pass, who crossed the ball perfectly to Nielsen. The striker hit dry with the right – his fourth goal of the season.
Coach Stefan Leitl was also appeased and praised after the game: “You have to score the goal first… I’m happy that Howie scored again. He’s just an important player. A link player, he knows the processes, knows what has to be done. I hope he stays healthy and scores more goals for us.”
Despite the missed derby victory, Nielsen and his colleagues were celebrated by the 96 fans after the final whistle: “The fans applauded, that’s also a sign for us.” Something is growing together in Hanover.
The Braunschweig fans were also able to drive home satisfied and celebrated their team exuberantly. Only their former striker has been vocal about what they think of him now. “Havard Nielsen, son of a bitch,” echoed the guest block.
Nielsen with a mischievous grin: “I noticed…” That doesn’t have to bother him anymore. He’s been a 96 darling for a long time.
