Budapest will be the capital of contemporary jewelry
This September, the capital will again belong to contemporary jewelry. September 12-18, 2022 Budapest Contemporary Jewelry Week (BJW), previously known as the Jewelery Night, will be held for the eighth time between 2018 and 2018 with the cooperation of the FISE – Young Artists’ Studio Association.
The most important goal of the event is to popularize the genre of contemporary jewelry as widely as possible, giving domestic and foreign creators the opportunity to present their latest works. The program series operates on a two-year theme, and as in every even-numbered year, this fall as well in more than twenty locations those interested will be able to meet the exhibitions and programs organized in connection with the event throughout Budapest, as well as in the Mana Gallery in Szentendre and the Ezüstláz Gallery in Pécs.

The week-long series of events In addition to the individual or group exhibition of domestic artists, the internationally announced tender material will be presented, which is one of the best locations in the city center, the Hybridart Space Gallery hosts.
This year’s slogan: PARADOX. The one-person jury for the exhibition material is one of the most outstanding and influential figures in contemporary jewelry design, the Dutch Gijs Bakker. It is certainly due to this that this year, an unprecedented number of application materials were received for the call. Thus, we can be sure that an extremely exciting and meaningful exhibition awaits the viewers. In view of the great interest of the previous years, this year there will also be guided tours on the site, where the organizing team will take the interested people around, giving them a deeper look at the tender material on display.

In the same space, Márta Edőcs, a glass and jewelry designer, will also present her series created for the event. A part of the amount collected from the sale of jewelry will support the future operation of the event.
Great care is taken to organize valuable programs for the wider public as well as the creative community, which promote the professional development of artists. This year, those interested can participate in several lectures, workshops and portfolio reviews. It is a great privilege that Gijs Bakker, participating as a jury, will delight the Hungarian audience with a personal presentation in the heart of the city center In the Three Ravens Cafe. Another guest of the event Charon Kransen, an art collector and curator from New York, will talk about joint collaboration with artists in an online presentation, and will even hold a professional consultation for domestic designers based on application. This year’s third speaker is the internationally acclaimed creator and book author Daniela Malev will also visit Hungary in September, and in addition to his professional report, 19–23 between the Credenc Workshop in a five-day workshop, he gives an insight into his attitude as a designer, during which the participants can enrich their practical experience.

Among the mentioned events, it is important to emphasize that, in addition to individual or group exhibitions, each has its own program during the jewelry week, where those interested can get to know the creators and their creations in person. Under the overall aim of the program series, navigation between the programs is made easy by a map specifically related to the event, on which all locations and important dates will be found.
On September 16the event will take place on Friday evening central program, where the valuable meaningful prizes will be handed over in a ceremonial setting between the creators of the related exhibitions and the exhibitors of the Paradox tender material. The awards include many foreign exhibition opportunities and valuable gift packages, which enable the establishment of new professional relationships and the birth of new works of art. The pearl-shaped porcelain prize object known as the trademark of the event was made by ceramic artist Katalin Herter this year as well.
