Aged between 18 and 25, mainly from the city’s priority districts, these young designers will take free training, with no qualifications required, in the fashion professions, in conjunction with the regional wool, hemp and fiber sectors. pastel. Casa 93Mirail has given itself the mission of identifying and training young talents to imagine the fashion of tomorrow, responsible and committed. “Our primary vocation is to disseminate the creativity that is at work in the neighborhoods and to support young people who are often real trend setters but who do not have the codes or the relationship to make their way in the very selective world of fashion”, explains the founder of Casa 93, Nadine Gonzalez, also at the origin of Casa Geração, a fashion school opened in 2005 in a favela in Rio de Janeiro.
In Montreuil as in Mirail, Casa 93 specializes in upcycling and is linked to partnerships with major brands such as Louis Vuitton, Mugler or Galeries Lafayette to give new life to their unsold or off-cuts. The first promotion from Toulouse will be sponsored by Marithé and François Girbaud, a shocking duo who have revolutionized the world of jeans. “We started in Mazamet around knitting, leather clothing and recycled knitwear. Our Maillaparty brand has become known all over the world. We started small and we grew! History can repeat itself for others”, testifies Marithé Girbaud. Other brands from Occitanie will take part in the adventure, including Terre de Pastel, Laines Paysannes in Ariège and Atelier Tuffery, a jeans tailor since 1892 in Lozère. The family business will call on students from Casa 93Mirail to develop a home/lifestyle collection by reusing local materials, hemp and wool. “We are thinking of new manufacturing, inclusion through work and the promotion of manual trades that are too often denigrated. We are going to provide the students with weaving loom scraps, it is up to them to contribute their stylistic and artistic research,” explains Myriam Tuffery. The Galeries Lafayette Toulouse have also planned to offer a “showcase” and even a sales area to present the creations that will have been made during the year.
