Male gorilla Kisumu is already in the Prague Zoo. My daughter will also arrive in a week

“Kisumu is in Prague! At 1:05 a.m., the gorilla ran out of the transport box into the back of the new pavilion,” Prague Zoo Director Miroslav Bobek reported on Twitter. His transport from the Austrian Schmiding Zoo, where he lived until now, took five hours. In the Prague Zoo, he is to become the leading male of the local family group.
In the following days and weeks, Kisumu will still be separated from the Prague females and Ajabu. “However, in a week he will be joined by the female Duni, the daughter of our famous Moja, who will be transported from Cabárcena, Spain, by a CASA army plane. Only then will all the gorillas in the new pavilion be united into one group,” said Bobek.
The new gorilla pavilion – the Dja Reserve – will be inaugurated on September 28.

At the beginning of June, the group of gorillas from the Prague Zoo split up. Females Shinda, Kijivu and Kamba and the youngest male Ajabu have moved to the new exhibit, where they will be joined by Duni and Kisumu. In the original pavilion in the lowest part of the garden, the male Richard remained with his sons Kiburi and Nuru.
Richard’s line is so represented in European breeding that he is no longer allowed to have young. The continuation of gorilla breeding is therefore to be ensured by the newly arrived Kisumu male.

Kisumu was born on May 27, 1997 at the Hellabrunn Zoo in Munich, where he was raised by his parents Sonja and Roututu. From there he was moved to a youth group in Schmiding in 2004. “Unlike our Richard, whose line is already so-called over-represented and therefore cannot have any more cubs, Kisumu has a much better ranking and should become a father here,” said the director of the Prague Zoo earlier. According to him, Duni will also get a chance to have her own cub.
