Celebrity day – Proclaimed king
King Charles is now seated in the hall. Here, after some introductory words, he will read out the proclamation.
– The support the whole family has received is overwhelming, says Charles.
The king also used the well-chosen words to pay tribute to his wife Camilla.
– In all this, I am deeply moved by the enormous support from my beloved wife. I would also like to take this opportunity to confirm my will and intention to continue the tradition of handing over the inheritance income, including the crown estate to the government for the benefit of all who support my official duties as head of state and leader of the nation.
After a lengthy speech, the king signed an oath assuring that he will preserve the Scottish church.
The ceremony started with the accession text being read out.
– God save the King, shouts in the hall.
The proclamation was then signed by Prince William.
On Saturday morning, an accession council will meet in St James’s Palace in London to formally proclaim Charles as the new head of state.
After a trumpet fanfare, a proclamation will be read from the Friary Court balcony of the castle. This is the public announcement that Charles has become king.
Salutes will be fired in Hyde Park, the Tower of London and from naval vessels. The proclamation will also be read out in Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast – the capitals of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The Union Flag is raised back to full-mast at 1pm to fly for the new monarch for 24 hours before being lowered back to half-mast.
