Toulouse: lack of room, a large gymnastics club threatened with extinction
The gym section of ASEAT is threatened with disappearance for lack of a room.
If no solution is found before the end of the month, a major Toulouse gymnastics club could put an end to its activities. The gym section of ASEAT (sports association of aeronautical establishments in Toulouse), based in the Guillaumet district, cannot find a room to accommodate its hundred or so members. Three years ago, the gymnasium which hosted the club’s activities was destroyed to be rebuilt and since then, young gymnasts have been going from room to room, first at Saint-Jo college then with the Coquelicot gymnastics club.
During this new school year, ASEAT could not find suitable premises and therefore finds itself on the street. “The town hall of Toulouse tells us that they have no solution, no room or gymnasium available” says the father of a gymnast who mobilized with other parents to find a new place, with enough space to allow the practice of gymnastics. The club found a suitable place on a military site but the room was not approved to receive the public and a sporting activity.
“It would be a shame if the girls ceased their activity. They compete in regional or even national competitions. If the section goes to sleep, I don’t know if it will be able to start again,” explains Patrice Campoy, father of a gymnast.
Also parents and educators are appealing to find a room as soon as possible.
