Prague – The first year of the international visual arts festival Prague Art Week 2 will begin early this evening on the New Stage of the National Theater. During the week, the doors of galleries, museums and art institutions will open to visitors, but they will also be able to reveal the behind-the-scenes of artistic practice in a series of lectures and masterclasses at the Superstudio on A new scene that will be attended by both domestic and foreign guests.
The organizers chose the date in such a way that the program could contribute to the Czech presidency of the Council of the European Union and, on the contrary, this is the opportunity for the guests who will come to the Czech Republic.
More than 50 locations throughout Prague invite visitors to a rich artistic program. During the festival weekend, large institutions prepared either free or discounted admission for visitors. From Monday, September 12 to Thursday, September 15, the organizers encourage you to visit smaller private galleries, which are densely represented within selected city districts, during the individual festival days.
Part of the opening ceremony today will be the announcement and awarding of ten artists from the Artefin gallery’s open calls for the best digital artwork, i.e. NTF. Its goal is to support the creation of progressive artists and the creation of an original digital work of art. The winning works will be auctioned during the festival week and the proceeds of the auction will be donated to charity.
The organizers of the festival were inspired by similar events in the world. Brno Art Week takes place in the Czech Republic, which has more than ten years of tradition. It was originally called the Week of Art Culture, but was renamed precisely because of the unification of the name with similar foreign events.
Prague Art Week organized by the ArtAntiques Media publishing house, which publishes the Art Antiques magazine and the Art+ portal, which is dedicated to the art market. Under the name Art Week, he organized a similar event in 2018 and 2019, in both covid years then in an online version.
