The municipality wants to build a new quarter and a depot in Braník. Prague 4 is skeptical about the plan Transport | News | Prague Gossip
The municipality wants to build new housing and a tram depot at the site of the current tram loop and parking lot in Braník. But Prague 4 City Hall does not see the project with enthusiasm, the place has already been affected by floods twice, I am also afraid of housing social clients.
Up to two hundred and fifty apartments
According to the city, the area adjacent to the Braník station, the city ring road and the Modřanská radial is unused. However, thanks to a good connection, it is attractive. The joint project of the transport company and the Prague Development Company is still in the planning phase, an urban study is being prepared that will check the construction possibilities.
“In the Braník locality near the Branické bridge, housing construction and a tram transport construction are being prepared on a city plot with an area of approx. 25,000 m2. According to the current spatial plan, approximately 250 rental apartments, commercial and administrative premises and infrastructure for tram transport construction could be created here. describes the Prague Development Company on its website. He plans to start construction next year, and it should be finished in 2030.
Dvorecký bridge will also help
According to the Deputy Mayor for Transport Adam Scheinherr (Prague itself), the construction of the depot is needed in Braník, because the trams travel unnecessarily far across the city. Accessibility should also be improved by the Dvorecký most, through which they can quickly reach Barrandov and Slivenc.
“It is the southern sector of the city that has the longest hauls to the depots, which will be even longer thanks to the extension of the trams, so that the night haul would realistically already occur at the time of departure of the morning trams. Thanks to the fact that the land here is owned by Prague and Dopravní podnik, we also have the opportunity to create urban housing here in addition to the technical infrastructure for trams.” he explained in a press release Scheinherr.
“We definitely do not want apartment buildings for the city’s social clients at this location.”
But the idea does not seem so good in the Prague 4 district. “The Prague spatial plan included a tram depot in Hodkovičky, but then the floods swept away this idea,” reported to the editors of Pražská Drbna by the 1st Deputy Mayor of the Prague 4 district for transport, finance and European funds Zdenek Kovárik (ODS).
“Also at the railway station in Braník, floods in 2002 and 2013 greatly limited the possibility of using this place. That’s why Prague 4 is very skeptical of the capital city’s pre-election idea to build a tram depot right here,” added Kovářík. But the city is counting on the assessment of flood protection in the study.
Even the vision of urban housing in the Čtyřky town hall does not fill with hope. “We definitely don’t want apartment buildings for the city’s social clients on this site,” added Kovářík.
