Míru Square was filled with dogs and dog walkers PRAGUE 2 | News
We certainly don’t need to tell any dog owner that he is man’s best friend. As proof that Czechs love dogs, the fact that there are around 2.5 million of them registered in our country is also proof. And it was for them that the traditional Dog Day was held at Náměstí Míru in Prague 2, when the organizers prepared a rich accompanying program for them.
“We discuss education and training and how to live comfortably with a dog, especially in the city. Here we present simple step by step, and shelters are also presented here, which are also supported by shops, and people are also supported in their activities by purchasing various exercises,” explains the organizer of the event, Kateřina Kašparová.
This year’s Dog Day also had an educational function in addition to its fun and social character. This time, the organizers can help with where the dogs can help.
“There are, for example, organizations that I would summarize under the motto “When dogs help” and which demonstrate how dogs can be useful to people, how they can, for example, function as assistance dogs and the like,” adds Kateřina Kašparová, organizer of the event.
The program also included the motivational challenge “Don’t take a burp”, which is particularly challenging for some dogs, as well as the announcement of the winners of the Novin Prahy 2 obedience course competition in the presence of leading representatives of the Prague 2 district.
“We are glad that we are doing this, because the dog is also a resident of the Prague 2 district. And a full-fledged one at that. I think they have a right to their things. Children like it, they come here with their dogs and learn how to handle them,” explains the deputy mayor of the Prague 2 district, Jan Korseska.
The Prague 2 district not only supports events of this type, but also tries to help dogs and dog owners in various ways and make their life in the city easier. She even had an important booklet “Dvojka pro pejskare” published for it.
“Everything that the city has to offer is really described there. Whether it’s about meadow dogs, how the dog is microchipped and other important information. At the same time, we are currently revitalizing Riegrový sady, where there will be a new dog meadow and dogs will have their own drinking fountains,” concludes Alexandra Udženija, mayor of Prague 2.
Dog Day at Náměstí Míru in Prague 2 showed once again that wherever dogs and dog walkers meet in one place, there is no shortage of fun and good mood. And if they also learn something interesting, it’s a perfectly spent afternoon.
