winners announced, soon on show in Siena
The winners of the Drone Photo Awards 2022 were announced among 2,624 participants, the most important competition in the world dedicated to aerial photography. Their shots can be admired in the show Only the sky above uspart of the Siena Awards program, an international festival of visual arts on stage from 1 October to 20 November.
Drone Photo Awards: Armand Sarlangue is the overall winner
The French photographer Armand Sarlangue won the highest award of this edition. The striking image comes from Iceland and shows a secondary fissure a few meters from the main crater of the Fagradalsfjall volcano. The “Big Bang” was immortalized from above during the last eruptive phase in September 2021.
The winning shots and videos
Nine categories of the Drone Photo Awards 2022. The rooftops and as far as the eye can see in the Kartoffelraekkerne district, in Oesterbro (Copenhagen), take first place in the category Urban. The aerial shot bears the signature of the Ukrainian photographer Serhiy Vovk and is dedicated to one of the most beautiful districts of the Danish capital.
In the category People wins the photo Sleeping on a boat by the Bengali photographer Anindita Roy which portrays a boatman resting on his small boat in the river port of Dhaka. Many flamingos that stay close during the day to protect each other are the absolute protagonists of Solidarity. The aerial shot of the Iranian photographer Mehdi Mohebipour was made in Mazandaran, Iran, and conquers the category Wild animals.
The photo entitled, instead, comes from the Namib Desert Match by the Swiss photographer David Rouge. Winner in the category Natureimmortalizes the evocative encounter between the desert dunes and the South Atlantic Ocean.
Falling skiersby the Polish photographer Daniel Koszelatriumphs in the section Sport. An impressive bird’s-eye view of the participants of the Bieg Piastów ski event which takes place in Szklarska Poręba, Poland. With the aerial shot Harvest of the Salt Workersthe Indian photographer Saurabh Sirohiya wins, however, in the category Abstract. The picture shows the hard work of some workers in a salt works in Habra, India.
The shot still comes from Poland Like a painted picture by the Polish photographer Krzysztof Krawczykwhich wins first place in the category Wedding. The photo portrays the sun’s rays on a body of water, a felled tree and a daring bride lying on top to complete the magnificent picture drawn by nature. Finally, it is Russian Dmitry Kokh with Abandoned weather station to win in the category Storyboard.
In the category videofinally, the Italian won the Pangea Prize Mauro Pagliai in the “Showreel” section, the Ukrainian Yurii Bobyr in photojournalism and Croatian Alen Tkalcec for the best travel video.

Siena Awards 2022
Next to the exhibition Only the sky above usset up in the “Accademia dei Fisiocritici” Natural History Museum this year the festival will feature eight photographic exhibitions. Among these, the three collective of the contest of the festival: SIPA Siena International Photo Awards, Drone Photo Awards and Creative Photo Awards.
Among the personal shows, the one dedicated to Danish Siddiqui, who was killed in 2021 in Afghanistan during one of his reports.
