RTL Today – Energy measures this Thursday: “It’s too late to be pessimistic”, proclaims the director of Greenpeace
Not only will we face a very rough winter, but there are also fundamental questions about our future. This is what Raymond Aendekerk, the director of Greenpeace Luxembourg, named this Wednesday morning as a guest of the editorial staff.
He affirms from the outset that it is our entire economic life that is weakened.
Thursday morning will be presented the national energy savings plan. From August until the end of March, EU countries must save 15% gas. The director of Greenpeace points out that we have certainly lost time, but that it is too late to be pessimistic. According to him, everyone can save money, for example by driving their car more slowly. Many of the problems we face now have been highlighted by Greenpeace for several decades. Solutions should not be sought at a local level but rather globally. “As Man is at the origin of this crisis, we can change the situation. This is not a natural disaster.“, specifies Raymond Aendekerk.
Despite all the problems it faces, the company has never been as healthy as it is today. According to the director of Greenpeace, this point should be underlined, even if certain questions should have been tackled earlier, such as that of the energy transition.
Greenpeace supports targeted actions, not a fuel discount, but a CO2 tax. Raymond Aendekerk adds that the state wastes a lot of money and that tax reform is necessary. At EU level, a tax on superprofits is currently being considered.
Regarding nuclear policy, for Raymond Aendekerk it is clear that a transition phase is necessary, but that nuclear energy is outdated, too expensive and not safe enough. He adds that certain independent expert opinions justify that sustainable energy sources are less expensive, which according to him also shows the current energy crisis.
