Strong reactions after new round of downsizing.
Three departments in Danmark Radio’s redaksjon Kultur, Børn og Unge stopped work on Wednesday in protest and went home, reports say Danish Journalist.
There have been strong internal reactions after the Danish state channel has dismissed 47 editorial staff, in another round of cuts. This time the goal is to free up resources to implement DR’s new digital strategy.
33 of the resignations came in the editorial office for culture, children and young people.
The action meant that several planned radio broadcasts were canceled on Wednesday, and DR had to switch to an emergency broadcasting schedule to fill the radio hours.
In a statement to the management, the employees in the three departments write that serious gaps have arisen in the trust in the management and its ability to secure the future of the entire organization.
“Not least the lack of predictability and openness in the decision-making processes makes it difficult for us to retain confidence that DR’s top management is able to ensure DR’s quality, finances and working conditions, that in the statement (Journalist’s translation).
On Thursday morning, the trade journal reports that the employees have resumed work after a general meeting.
