Amsterdam UMC makes undesirable behavior negotiable with app
Unwanted in the workplace occurs in every way: gossip, bullying, exclusion, intimidation, verbal and behavioral, discrimination, conflict and sexual comments of actions.
Research has shown that employees can lose pleasure in their work and develop when they don’t feel safe. The #zouikwat Saying app is one of the goals that Amsterdam UMC uses to improve social safety. The app, an initiative of Vice Dean Education Christa Boer, was developed in 2019 among medical students at the VU. Recently, the app has also been trained by students of the Nursing course and the courses for professional medical science. The experiences with this are so positive that the app is now available for all employees of the Amsterdam UMC and medical students at the UvA.
Low-threshold reporting and discussing
For many employees it is difficult to make use of undesirable behavior if the workplace feels unsafe. The procedures are also sometimes irregular and the agreements are not always clear. Sometimes the employees simply don’t have the time. This app offers a solution by making reporting possible in an accessible, digital way. The app does not exchange personal data. Reports can be made completely information and generally anonymously and the reports can be submitted to the confidential advisers of the Ombudsman’s office and confidential affairs. After receiving the report, a discussion will be held with the reporter to see what action is needed. In this way a signal can be sent and possible interventions to improve social safety can be deployed.
other hospitals
Cross-border behavior is a current theme in many organizations. Many hospitals in the country are also very interested in the app as one of the tools to make this topic a topic for discussion. Erasmus MC is launching the app this month.
