Scheinherr (Prague itself): Prague will increase the capacity of the Barrandovský most. She chose from several studies
Barrandovský most is the most important bridge and at the same time a traffic artery in the Czech Republic. It is used by 144,000 cars a day, and Prague has decided to address a possible increase in its traffic capacity.
The problem with the capacity of the Barrandovský bridge is not the bridge itself with four lanes in each direction, but the interlacing on the bridge aprons.

SATRA therefore prepared a study for the capital city and for the Technical Traffic Administration (TSK) of several alternative transport solutions, which were to increase the capacity not only of interchanges and level crossings (MÚK), but also to create a direct lane that could increase the maximum speed on the bridge and thereby relieving especially the tunnels on the City Ring Road (MO) and the connected roads in other parts of the metropolis.
“Barrandovský most is the busiest bridge in the Czech Republic. 144,000 cars cross it daily. But it is not only a bridge over the Vltava. On both of its forecourts on the banks of the Vltava there are also complicated intersections, which are also bottlenecks of the City Ring Road. At the same time, when we complete the Radlicka radial, the traffic on the Barrandovské bridge will increase, and it will be necessary to ensure smooth passage through the important traffic junction. Thanks to the adjustment of the horizontal road markings, a simple modification after the completion of the first stage of the reconstruction, we will create a direct lane from the tunnels of the City Ring to the South Junction and further to the D1 highway without the complicated transition from lane to lane, and cars will avoid tangles,” says Adam Scheinherr, Deputy Mayor for the area of Transport and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of TSK.
Work on a detailed study, which followed up on the screening study “MÚK Barrandovský most – screening of alternative transport solutions”, showed a possible solution. Its key results were the determination of the initial pre-stage and subsequent final construction variants of changes to the transport solution, which have the potential to improve the flow of traffic in the locality in question. The results were based on traffic modeling in the VISIM program.
